Choose how small you want your video, as a share of its current size, and get back an MP4 at the same resolution. Useful for email attachments, chat apps with upload limits, and faster uploads to the web.
How to compress a video online
- Add your video: MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 500 MB and 20 minutes long.
- Set Target size with the slider, from 10% to 90% of the original. 50% is a good place to start.
- Keep audio or drop it. Turning audio off saves space for the picture.
- Generate. The compressed MP4 appears in your library when it's done, usually in a fraction of the video's running time.
How it works
The file size of a video is mostly its bitrate multiplied by its length. We measure your video's duration, work out the bitrate that lands on your target size, and re-encode it to H.264 at that rate, leaving room for the MP4 container and, if you kept it, a 96 kbps AAC sound track. The resolution, frame rate and length stay the same.
