Shrink photos and graphics for websites, email and uploads with size limits. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP, set the quality, optionally cap the size, and compare the result with the original.

How to compress an image

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 20 MB.
  2. Set the quality: 75 is a good start.
  3. Choose a max size to scale down large photos, or keep the original.
  4. Compress and compare before and after.

Tips

  • Resize first, then compress: a 1920-pixel image is plenty for most web pages.
  • Screenshots and graphics compress best as PNG.
  • Photos for the web often end up smaller as WebP; convert with Image Converter.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes. Compressing images doesn't use credits and there's no watermark.

Does the format change?

No. JPEGs stay JPEG, PNGs stay PNG and WebPs stay WebP. To change format, use Image Converter.

How is PNG compressed?

PNGs are reduced to an optimised color palette, which often makes them several times smaller while keeping transparency.

Which quality should I pick?

70 to 80 looks the same as the original to most people. Go lower for thumbnails, higher for prints.

What if the file doesn't get smaller?

If it is already compressed as far as that quality allows, you'll be told rather than handed a bigger file. Try a lower quality or a smaller max size.
