Seedream 5 is ByteDance Seed's image model for richly detailed stills with strong composition control. It is a good match for scenes where placement matters: a storyboard frame, a book illustration, a layout with a clear foreground and background.
What you can do with it
- Text to image. Describe a scene and its composition and get up to four images.
- Edit an image. Attach a picture and describe what should change.
- Follow references. Attach images for the new picture to follow and describe the scene around them.
- Wide and tall frames. 21:9 for cinematic stills, 1:2 and 2:1 for strips and banners.
How to use it
- Write your prompt in the composer.
- Attach images to edit or follow, if you have them.
- Set speed, number of images, aspect ratio and resolution.
- Check the price in the composer, then generate.
Writing prompts for Seedream 5
Since composition is a strength, tell the model where things go.
- Place the subject. "In the lower left third", "centered and small in a large empty field", "filling the frame".
- Describe depth. Say what is in the foreground, middle ground and background.
- Set the camera. Eye level, low angle, top-down, wide lens, close-up.
- Add the detail you care about. Materials, textures, weather, clothing. A detailed model rewards detailed prompts.
- Name the style. Photo, gouache painting, ink line art, digital matte painting.
Example prompts:
- A lighthouse keeper's cottage on a cliff, seen from far below, small in the upper right of the frame, a stormy sky filling the rest. Muted oil painting.
- Top-down view of a breakfast table: a cracked blue bowl of berries in the center, a folded newspaper on the left, a hand reaching for a cup on the right. Natural morning light.
Choosing settings
- Speed: Fast (default) or Slow.
- Images: 1 to 4 per run, default 2.
- Aspect ratio: 1:1 (default), 3:4, 4:3, 2:3, 3:2, 4:5, 5:4, 9:16, 16:9, 21:9, 1:2 or 2:1.
- Resolution: 1K (default) or 2K.
- Output format: JPEG (default) or PNG, in the advanced settings panel.
Credits per image, the same for new images and edits:

On Fast, 1K and 2K cost the same, so 2K is a free upgrade there. A default run of two Fast images is 136 credits. The composer shows the exact price before you generate.
