Grok Imagine 2.0 is xAI's image model for fast generation and editing. It leans toward a loose, photographic look, which suits candid scenes, street photography, snapshots and anything that should feel less polished than a studio render.
What you can do with it
- Text to image. Describe a moment and get up to four takes on it.
- Edit an image. Attach a picture and say what should change.
- Follow a reference. Attach images for the new picture to follow, then describe the scene you want.
How to use it
- Write your prompt in the composer.
- Attach images if you want to edit one or use it as a guide.
- Pick the number of images, aspect ratio, quality and resolution.
- Check the price in the composer, then generate.
Writing prompts for Grok Imagine 2.0
Because the model already leans photographic, prompts that read like a description of a real photo tend to work well.
- Describe the camera situation. Phone snapshot, 35mm film, flash at night, overcast afternoon, shot from across the street.
- Say what is happening. A moment in progress is more interesting than a posed subject: someone laughing mid-sentence, a dog shaking off water.
- Name the light. Golden hour, harsh noon sun, neon signs, a single window.
- For edits, name what stays. "Keep the person and framing; make it night and add rain."
Example prompts:
- A candid film photo of two friends sharing fries on a car hood at a drive-in, late summer dusk, slight grain and soft focus.
- An overcast morning at a small fish market, a vendor mid-laugh holding up a crate, shot from waist height.
Choosing settings
- Images: 1 to 4 per run, default 2. Each image is billed, so more images cost more per run.
- Aspect ratio: 1:1 (default), 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 2:1 or 1:2.
- Quality: Medium (default) or Low.
- Resolution: 1K (default) or 2K.
The price is flat: 125 credits per image, for new images and edits alike, whichever quality and resolution you pick. One image costs 125 credits and four cost 500. The composer shows the exact price before you generate.
Since the price doesn't change with resolution, 2K is worth choosing whenever you need the larger file. For layouts with lots of exact text, or edits where small details must survive, GPT-Image 2.5 and Nano Banana Pro are other options to try.
